A recent survey conducted by Econsultancy found that content marketing topped the list of top priorities for digital marketing efforts in 2013. A total of 39% of respondents reported that investing more resources in content development and marketing was a top priority, edging out other activities such as social media engagement, mobile optimization and video marketing.
Why is content marketing so important?
If you want to be seen by search engines and rank well for a variety of different search terms, you need a content development strategy. Google’s search algorithms favor sites that have fresh and relevant content. Sites that are stagnant will begin to decrease in relevancy and will see a decrease in search rankings and lower traffic–while sites that post current content that is relevant will increase in visibility and generate more traffic.
Do you have the best product in the world? Do you offer the most amazing service? Well guess what? So does the guy down the street–at least that’s what he’s telling everyone. Gone are the days where your website can just talk about your products and services. You need value-added content to attract new visitors and encourage return visits. You need good content that differentiates you from the competition and puts your company/product/service on another level.
- It works!
The #1 reason why content marketing is so important is because it works! With content marketing you can track everything. You know how many new visitors have seen your site, you can track increases in search engine traffic, you can capture leads with landing page forms. In fact, we find that companies that invest in content marketing and add at least 1 new article or blog to their website each week see on average increase in search traffic of 170% over the first year.
